I have had the pleasure to put together a wood piece for Rhett Palmer, one of our local radio personalities. The carving was Rhett’s brainchild; he had a dream of a bunch of different footprints in the sand, and when he woke up, he was compelled to write a poem based upon that mental imagery. If you look at my section on carving techniques, you’ll see the development of that piece.
With Rhett’s kindness in mind (I took ever so much longer than I’d planned to finish the piece) and coming in to about 800 pounds of polished granite, I decided to make him a “thank you”. I used his poem again and carved it into a nice 12 x 6 inch piece of the granite. Here is how it came out:
He seemed pleased. Thanks Rhett!
